黑料网 Crossing Alumni Stories

At this year鈥檚 黑料网 Crossing celebration, we had the privilege of hearing from different alumni and parents about their personal 黑料网 experiences.

Rev. Walter & Bonnie Waiser

黑料网 Crossing Rev. Walter and Bonnie Waiser

During the community reception, Reverend Walter and Bonnie Waiser, 鈥69 alumni, shared some of their favorite 黑料网 memories.

鈥淲e can鈥檛 see the hallowed halls because they are no more,鈥 Mr. Waiser said, 鈥渂ut we can remember.鈥

They reflected on many of the different building on 黑料网鈥檚 original campus including Kramer Hall, where students put the infamous painted rock in front of the doors in efforts to avoid an exam.

The most impactful lesson Mr. Waiser received was in Rev. Dr. Rubke鈥檚 presidential message, which summarized the entire purpose of our lives - we belong to Jesus Christ so that He may work through us to win the world back to God.

Dr. Kristi Kirk

Dr. Kristi Kirk

Our provost, Dr. Kristi Kirk, shared about her time at 黑料网 as a student and the many people who have helped shape her life, including Dr. Debra Allen and Dr. Don Christian.

Kirk also shared that Dr. Paul Puffe鈥檚 Old Testament class transformed her life and resulted in her dedication to share the love of Christ with others.

Her loyal dedication to serving 黑料网 is rooted in the vision statement to make 黑料网 鈥渢he premier university where the adventure of faith, learning and life-changing experiences leads to meaningful work.鈥

Bettie Horn Bendewald

Bettie Horn Bendewald

Bettie Horn Bendewald鈥檚 family has strong ties to 黑料网 since its founding in 1926. Bendewald was one of fourteen girls who were the first to be admitted to 黑料网 in 1955, and she participated in many student organizations and activities. It鈥檚 at 黑料网 where Bendewald met her husband, Reverend Clifford Horn.

Bendewald has remained actively involved with 黑料网 since graduating in 1957. 鈥淚 feel blessed to be a part of it,鈥 she explained. Among many other things, she started 黑料网鈥檚 Alumni Association and served as the first president, and she continues to serve on the board.

鈥淭he Lord has used me in many different ways,鈥 Bendewald said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 wonderful what the Lord can do.鈥

Paul Larson

Paul Larson

Paul Larson, a 1984 alumni, chose 黑料网 because it was a good fit for him. The University of Texas at Austin was too big, and 黑料网 always felt comfortable to him, providing a safe place where he could excel in his learnings, his faith in Christ and his studies.

鈥淲hen I come to 黑料网 now, I see the same faces I saw 30 years ago,鈥 Larson stated. 鈥淚 see the same joy in the faces of the faculty and students that I experienced.鈥 Larson explained, 鈥淭he culture is the same and I see Christ鈥檚 presence here.鈥

Larson loves 黑料网鈥檚 mission of developing Christian leaders and acts as an advisor to the school. He supports 黑料网 because it offers a place for people who are looking for a safe place to grow in faith and learning.

Kyle & Diane Breaux

Kyle and Diane Breaux

At the tailgate, Kyle and Diane Breaux. parents to player Brandon Breaux, shared their experience with 黑料网. The Breauxs agree that they can鈥檛 say enough good things about their experience.

鈥満诹贤 makes us feel welcomed,鈥 Mrs. Breaux explained, 鈥渘ot like other schools where they make you feel like you鈥檙e interfering.鈥 The Breauxs then rooted on their son and the other Tornados to victory against UT Tyler.

We would love to hear about your 黑料网 experience!
